NEW ELLENTON, SC – BERNICE BRANHAM DIXON, 85, widow of Davis Ross Dixon, died Monday, April 27, 2015 at her residence.
A native of Blaney, SC, Bernice was a daughter of the late Levi and Margaret Ackerson Branham. She lived in New Ellenton since 1954 and was a homemaker. Bernice was a longtime member of Foreman Memorial Baptist Church and was recognized for being a member of the choir, assistant pianist and pianist for the Primary Sunday School Dept. for over 40 years. She was also a member of the PraiSingers Chorus. Bernice was well known for her sour dough biscuits and fried cornbread, with a side of grits.
Survivors include two daughters, Sonya Terry (Mike), New Ellenton, Jennifer Watkins (David), New Ellenton; three sons, Mike Dixon (Ginger), Aiken, Gary Dixon, Lugoff, and Phillip Dixon (Annette), Evans, GA; fifteen grandchildren, John Crawford, Jason Crawford, Grant Ensley, Gina Waites, David Dixon, Eric Dixon, Ashley Miller, Kristy Harden, Christina Blount, Brittany May, Mandy Dixon, Jennifer Smith, Nicholas Terry, Celeste Terry and Caroline Terry; thirteen great-grandchildren; three brothers, Grady Branham (Dorothy), Columbia, Rudolph Branham (Mary), Ridgeway and Gene Branham, Ridgeway.
In addition to her husband and parents, Bernice was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Holli Dixon Strader, a sister and a brother.
The family will receive friends Thursday beginning at 2:30 PM at Foreman Memorial Baptist Church followed by the funeral service at 3:30 PM. The Revs. Richard Nichols and Gary L. Romines will officiate. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Crawford, Jason Crawford, David Dixon, Eric Dixon, Chris Harden and Nicholas Terry. Honorary Pallbearers will be current and former members of the choir.
