Ann Major Verenes

AIKEN, SC – ANN MAJOR VERENES, 91, widow of Stathy J. Verenes, died peacefully Saturday evening, May 2, 2015 at her residence. Born in Anderson, SC, Ann grew up in Cross Hill, SC and was a daughter of the late Samuel Louis Major and Leonora Leaman Major Hollingsworth. She graduated from Winthrop College in 1945 and moved to Aiken where she taught school until she married Stathy in 1948 and began a family. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Surviving is her son, Hugh L. Verenes. In addition to her parents, and husband, Ann was preceded in death by a son, James L. Verenes. The family would like to offer a special thank you to Ruby Lundy who was Ann’s caregiver for the last several years. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock at First Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Brian Coulter officiating. Interment will be held privately in Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Stathy J.
