AIKEN, SC – DONALD FREDERICK KAERCHER, 85, beloved husband of Margaret Proctor Kaercher, died Monday, January 5, 2009 at Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro, SC.
A native of Allentown, PA, Mr. Kaercher was a son of the late Charles and Theresa Schmaldienst Kaercher. He proudly served his country during World War II in the Army Infantry. He attended Temple University and was a retired manager and cost analyst with RCA Corp. Mr. Kaercher had lived in Aiken since February of 1984 and was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church where he was a member of the Whalen / Sr. Men’s Sunday School Class. He also played the trumpet in the church’s orchestra. He was a former president of the Rainbow Club and the Sr. Men’s Club of Aiken. He was also a member of the Laurel Lodge, NJ Masonic Lodge and the Lu Lu Shrine Temple in Plymouth Meeting, PA.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Margaret, include two sons, Donald F. (Lynn) Kaercher, Jr., Livonia, MI, and Timothy J. (Sharlene) Kaercher, Voorhees, NJ, six grandchildren, Matthew Kaercher, Tim O’Donnell, Sean O’Donnell, Tyler Kaercher and Paige Kaercher, five great-grandchildren, Dustin Kaercher, Declan O’Donnell, Joseph O’Donnell, Liam O’Donnell and Brooklynn O’Donnell. He is also survived by a half sister, Patricia St.Clair, Westmont, NJ and a half brother, Bruce Kaercher, Norristown, PA. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Dustin Kaercher.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 PM in the chapel of Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home, with The Rev. Dr. Chris Masters officiating. Entombment, with military honors will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
