AIKEN, SC – FRANK O. “MAC” McKENNA, 59, beloved husband of Anita Harper McKenna, entered into eternal rest with his Heavenly Father, Saturday, May 23, 2015 at his residence.
A native of Baltimore, MD, Frank was a son of the late Nelson F. and Olivia Holmes McKenna. Frank called Aiken home for the past 26 years and was a member of South Aiken Baptist Church where he formerly served on the school board.
Frank proudly served his country in the United States Army for 13 years, as a Master Sergeant. He was one of the original founding members of the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment – DELTA Force and the 1st Battalion, 75th Infantry Ranger. He participated daily in high risk special operations maintaining readiness for immediate worldwide response. He was extremely strong willed and accomplished difficult tasks through sheer force of will.
Frank was the Security and Emergency Services Manager for Waste Isolations Pilot Plant (WIPP), Carlsbad, NM, Vulnerability Analysis and Performance Assurance Manager for Savannah River Site and the Special Response Training and Operations Manager for Idaho National Engineering Laboratory. He was a loyal and professional leader.
Frank was a devoted loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was an exceptional individual and touched so many lives during his short time here on this earth.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Anita; a daughter, Stacey Britton; grandsons, Anthony “John” Bolin (Heather), Steven Willis; granddaughters, Tayler Faulkner and Savannah Faulkner all of Aiken; his brother, Dale McKenna (Barbara), Baltimore, MD; sisters, Mary McKenna, Sweden, Kathy McKenna and Diane McKenna, both of Baltimore, MD; mother-in-law, Ivey Harper, Jesup, GA; brother-in-law, Larry Harper (Dorothy), Jesup, GA; sisters-in-law, Linda Worth, Jesup, GA, Nancy Coats (Jim), Stafford, VA; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be Wednesday morning at 11 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home with The Rev. Michael Dyar officiating. Interment will follow in historic Bethany Cemetery with honors accorded by the United States Army Honor Guard.
