NEW ELLENTON, SC – IRENE MOORE USSERY, 83, widow of Burnis E. Ussery, died Friday, January 30, 2009 at her son’s home. Mrs. Ussery was born in Eastman, GA on August 4, 1925 to Samuel C. and Annie Foster Moore. She moved to New Ellenton in 1954 where her husband B. E. Ussery took one of the first jobs as a patrolman with DuPont at the Savannah River Site. She was a seamstress most of her working days at S. R. Skinner in New Ellenton and other manufacturing companies. She retired in the early 80’s. Mrs. Ussery was a member of Corinth Baptist Church. She loved to fish, cook and do needle work. She was an angel on earth and is in heaven now with her husband Burnis, son Sammy Ussery, two sisters and three brothers. Survivors include her son and daughter Wayne and Bernice Ussery of Aiken, grandson Troy (Leslye) Ussery, North Augusta, great-grandchildren, Hunter Ussery and Katelyn Henderson, sister, Ressie Dykes, Eastman, GA and dear family friends, Bob and Kathy Prater and Stacey Hanson. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:00 PM at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Rd., Aiken, SC, with The Rev. Kirby Bunton and Mrs. Shirley Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Harold Key, Kevin Moore, Tab Moore, Brad Moore, Ronnie Reynolds and Rick Willard. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 PM Sunday at the funeral home and at other times at the home of her son.
