Aiken-Sara Louise Franck Charlton, 84, died Feb. 5 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday at St. Johns United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. George K. Howle officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Interment will be held at Aiken Memorial Gardens prior to the service at 2:00 PM.
Mrs. Charlton was born in Richlands, NC, a daughter of the late James Roscoe and Aline Whitaker Franck. She was a graduate of East Carolina Teachers College, and moved to Aiken in 1964. She was a teacher in the North Carolina school system and then in the Aiken County Public School system. She also enjoyed playing bridge, working in her yard. She moved to Eden Gardens in October 2008, where she enjoyed playing bingo, watching the birds from her window and being cared for by the staff there. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her loving children, Patricia (Tish) Crumpler, High Point, NC, Sara Elizabeth (Barry) Parks, Fuquay-Varina, NC, Tina Charlton (Kevin) Bumpus, Aiken, and William “Billy” Gibbs (Debbie) Charlton, Jr., Aiken: grandchildren, Bradford Michael Crumpler, Matthew William Crumpler, Jeffrey Hunter Crumpler, Wesley Kevin Bumpus, William Gibbs Charlton, III, James Corey Parks, Sara Callie Parks, Christopher Sterling Charlton, Adam Stewart Bumpus; two great grandchildren, Gavin William Crumpler and Kayla Makenzie Crumpler; two brothers, Lewis Sandlin Franck, Burbank, CA, James Richard (Dot) Franck, Trenton, NC; sister-in-law, Marie Franck, Burlington, NC.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William Gibbs Charlton; sisters, Grace Franck Langenbacher, Doris Franck Hodges; brother, Roscoe Whitaker Franck
