AIKEN, SC - Nicholas William " Nick " Rangos, loving husband of Irene Sango Rangos, died August 1, 2015 at home.
Trisagion Service and viewing will be held from 6 to 8 Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Shellhouse Funeral Home. The Trisagion Service will be held at 7 pm . Funeral services will be held at 2 pm August 5 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, corner of 10 th and Telfair St., Augusta, GA with the Father Vasile Bitere officiating. Interment will follow at Historic Bethany Cemetery located in Aiken, SC. A reception will follow at Woodside Country Club, Aiken, SC.
Mr. Rangos was the son of the late Vasilios and Stella Chalapaos Rangos. He moved here from Greece and started a catering business. He provided catering services for the Masters Golf Tournament for forty five years making his famous Pimento Cheese and Egg Salad. He had a soda fountain at Woodruff Drug Store, owned Nicks Grill, operated the Ramada Inn Restaurant and Lounge, catered for over thirty years for Owens Corning Fiberglass, catered for the Aiken Steeplechase, and all around catering for many events in the Aiken and Augusta area.
He was an entrepreneur, he had the insight for business and hard working drive to realize success. He was very diverse in real estate as well as various businesses around Aiken Co. He was always a very active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Augusta, GA where he truly loved his church.
He was a 50 plus Year Life Member and past president of AHEPA Chapter 407, member and past president of the Church Parish Council, recipient of the Archangel Michael Honors from the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Atlanta, and cooked for the Greek Cuisine for many years.
He truly loved his friends, church and family. This is what put a smile on his face, and always grateful to be in such great company. To his friends, thank you for being a part of a life that was truly very full, and the friendships that will never go away.
To the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, anything he did to help was a true labor of love for the church family, this is where his faith and heart lead him to serve. Our husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, will always be a guiding light and example for all of us, a light that will live forever deep in our hearts. May His Memory Be Eternal!
Survivors besides his wife include his daughters, Stella (Richard) Alexander, St. Augustine, FL, Crystal Katherine Rangos, Aiken, son, Nicholas Basil Rangos, Aiken. Grandchildren: Hilary Rangos, Paris, France, Amanda Alexander, Orlando,FL, Bryan Alexander, St. Augustine, Fl, Nicole Cook (Mike), Mt. Pleasant, SC, Robert Moldenhauer, Aiken, great grandchild, Caleb Cook. Harriet Jackson (fiance’ to Nicholas Rangos) and her two sons Peter and Frank Jackson. Brian Connelly (fiancé to Amanda Alexander). And a beloved dog, Pepper. In addition to his parents, Nick was preceded in death by a brother, Theodore V. Rangos, formerly of Ypsilanti, MI.
Pallbearers will be, Peter Jackson, Frank Jackson, Bryan Alexander, Mike Cook, Kenneth Keaton, and Costa Trapalis. Honorary pallbearers will be Chuck Ballas, Gus Magoulas, George Gregory, and AHEPA Member Chapter 407.
