AIKEN, SC - GEORGE WASHINGTON BOATRIGHT, 85, of Aiken, South Carolina beloved husband of Delia Bishop Boatright, passed away Monday, August 10, 2015 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
Born in Peacock, Texas on February 22, 1930, George was a son of the late Clarence P. and Marie D. Boatright. He was a graduate of Peacock High School. George was a veteran of the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a supervisor with E. I. DuPont at Savannah River Site and retired after more than 40 years. He was also founder of and operated Boatright Fence Company for many years. He was a member of South Aiken Baptist Church. George was an avid golfer and a member of Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken. In addition to his wife of 63 years, he is survived by his son Michael “Mike” and Christie Boatright of Gilbert, South Carolina; three grandchildren, Austin Boatright, Haley Boatright and Laura Boatright, all of Gilbert, South Carolina; two sisters, Alice R. Kolb of Aspermont, Texas and Etta Faye Bumgarten of Texas. He was predeceased by one brother and two sisters. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5 until 7 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be Friday morning at 11 o’clock at the funeral home with The Rev. Michael Dyar officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Eric Smith, Frank Bishop, Dennis Adams, Austin Boatright, Bill Miller and Mike Hardwick. Honorary Pallbearers will be his golfing buddies at Palmetto Golf Club. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to South Aiken Baptist Church, 980 Dougherty Rd, Aiken, SC 29803.
