Robert Lee Huckabee, Jr.

November 9, 1922 — February 13, 2009

AIKEN, SC -- Robert Lee. Huckabee, Jr., 86, of Aiken, entered heavens gates on February 13, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years , Lila Richardson Huckabee. Also, he was preceded by his parents, Robert Lee Huckabee, Sr. and Nanna Lou Huckabee, his sister, Phronsie Brooks, and his brother, Everett (Tip) Huckabee. He is survived by his three daughters. Martha Day of Augusta, Trish Baughman (Hal) of Aiken, and Brenda Sharpe (Andy) of Aiken. He also had five grandchildren (Robert, Tammy, Kevin, Kristie, and Bobby) and eight great-grandchildren. R. L. was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He and his wife, Lila loved to fish. They spent a lot of their retirement years enjoying their lake home at Lake Murray. They also loved to fish and camp with friends at Hunting Island in Beaufort. He worked 19 years for DuPont before he and his wife started their business, Huckabee’s Auction Barn and Huckabee’s Used Cars. He was an auctioneer at the business he and his wife owned and operated for numerous years. He loved the Lord and served Him well throughout his life. He set an example for his children to follow. He was a member of Redd's Branch Baptist Church. He also was a member of the Masonic Temple - Lodge #156. and a proud Army veteran of World War II. The family would like to express thanks to the many loving caregivers and nurses he has had over the years (Norma, Lugene, Maggie, Cindy, Rose, Teresa, Alecia, Wanda, Cathy, Jan, Earnstine, Darlene, and Beverly.) . We want to especially thank Betty Scott and Tonnette Ford for their devotion and love given to our father.. Also, a special thanks to Professional Case Management and their staff of nurses for the excellent service provided over the past years. The following nurses have been truly a blessing from God providing such loving care during his illness Trish Dukes, Sharon Elder, Marigene Gethers, Christie Grant, Julie Joyner, Sandra Nimmons, Melinda Poe, and Sydelle Young and their case managers Daphine Kimball and Cheryl Mandia. The family also is grateful for the support and comfort provided by the Regency Hospice Staff. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 PM at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Rd., Aiken, SC. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be David Harley, Larry Harley, Norris Mosley, Charles Scott, Lee Wilson, Robert Cooper, Bobby Sharpe. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 PM Saturday at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home.
