AIKEN, SC – ROBERT WAYNE TAYLOR, 82, beloved husband of Saranel Watson Taylor, died Monday, September 21, 2015 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
A native of Greenville, SC, Robert was a son of the late Ernest Frank and Martha Mahaffey Taylor. He was a graduate of Furman University, and was commissioned 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, stationed in Ft. Richardson, AK. He returned to active duty with the Army National Guard during the Berlin Crisis and was stationed at Ft. Mead, MD. Robert lived in Aiken since 1955 and was a retired chemist in environmental research with DuPont and Westinghouse at the Savannah River Site. He was a member of the American Chemical Society and the National Rifle Association.
Surviving, in addition to his wife Saranel, include two daughters, Barbara T. Allen (David), Mt. Pleasant, SC, Lisa T. Lader (Arthur), Aiken; a son, Joseph Caleb Taylor, Aiken; four grandchildren, Brandt Allen, Stuart Taylor, Sarah Nell Lader, Rosemary Allen; a sister, Ernestine T. Hester (Keavan), Greenville, SC. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by a sister, Edna T. Evatt.
The family will receive friends Friday afternoon at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home beginning at 2 o’clock, followed by the funeral service at 3 o’clock. The Reverend Christopher Crotwell will officiate. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be David Allen, Brandt Allen, Stuart Taylor, Art Lader and Sarah Nell Lader.
