AIKEN, SC – BRUCE W. WRIGHT, 95, beloved husband of Opal Mullins Wright, died Saturday, September 26, 2015 at his residence. A native of Birch Leaf, VA, Bruce was a son of the late William James and Emma Colley Wright. He served in the United States Navy, surviving Pearl Harbor, and was a submariner in the Battle of Guadalcanal during World War II. He retired from the Naval Reserve with the rank of Sr. Chief. Bruce moved to Aiken in 1953 and worked for E. I. DuPont at the Savannah River Plant, retiring in 1981. He was a member of South Aiken Presbyterian Church and served as Elder, Trustee and Deacon. He was a member of Aiken Masonic Lodge #156. Survivors, in addition to his wife of 72 years, Opal; a daughter, Elizabeth Jean Moler (Robert), Aiken; two sons, Ronald Bruce Wright (Sandy), Huntington Beach, CA, Michael William Wright (Patti), Florence, SC; grandchildren, John Wright (Crystal), Lee Wright (Katie), Andrea Cornelison, Megan Greenwald (Brian), Bruce Hughey (Kristen), Chad Hughey, Staci Funk (Jay), Katie Moler (Blake Murphy), Michael Moler; sixteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Ratliff, Doraville, GA. The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home beginning at 1 o’clock followed by the funeral service at 2 o’clock. The Revs. Dr. Christopher Crotwell and Judy Bowling will officiate. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
