AIKEN – Mrs. Grace Ann Bailey Kassebaum, died Saturday. February 21, 2009.
Mrs. Kassebaum was born in Owensboro, KY. She was a resident of Aiken for the past 8 years. Mrs. Kassebaum earned her under graduate degree from Kentucky Wesleyan. She attended the University of Missouri where she earned her masters degree in Social Work. She served on the facility at three medical schools including University of MO, University of MD, and the University of KS. She also served on the staff at the Denver General Hospital,, and Jewish Family Services in Denver.
She was a member of the USD 490 School Board from 1982 – 1984 in El Dorado, KS, where she also was the owner of the 131 North Boutique. She served as an American Red Cross Volunteer from 1995 – 2002 which took her to disasters though out the US and Guam. Her final assignment was as the first responder out of SC to 911. In addition, Mrs. Kassebaum had a private practice as a psychiatric social worker both while living in Maryland and Kansas.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Kenneth G. Kassebaum, two sons, Sean Heinrich (Mary Dale) Kassebaum, Ardmore, AL, Aaron Lee Shields, Gaithersburg, MD, “adopted daughter” Keisha Pascal Schofield, Wichita, KS, (previous husband) Jimmy Lee Shields, Tucson, AZ.
