AIKEN, SC – BOBBY RAY GRIFFIN, SR. 76, beloved husband of Barbara Fields Griffin, died Thursday, February 26, 2009 at his residence.
A native of Fort Mill, SC, Bobby was a son of the late Claxton Lafayette and Lula Mae Neal Griffin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He moved to Aiken in 1955 and was a supervisor at the Savannah River Site, having retired from both DuPont and Westinghouse. Bobby attended Solid Rock Baptist Church, and as a hobby enjoyed making knives.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Barbara, include a daughter, Susan Caddell, Aiken, a son, Bobby Ray Griffin, Jr, Aiken, five step-sons, Julian Friday and James Friday, both of Fort Mill, Joe Friday and Johnny Friday, both of Rock Hill and Jan Friday, Aiken, five grandchildren, fourteen step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Sheila Tyler, Glenburnie, MD, Linda Diehl and Jerilyn Kelly, both of Ellabell, GA and three brothers, William Griffin, Ellabell, GA, Charles R. Griffin and Olin Griffin, both of Edgewater, FL. In addition to her parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Ann Griffin.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 2:00 PM at Solid Rock Baptist Church, with The Rev.’s Steven Drawdy and Marion Britton officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
