Gretchen Whittle Griggs

AIKEN, SC – GRETCHEN W. GRIGGS, 84, died Thursday, October 15, 2015 at her residence. A native of Aiken County, Gretchen was a daughter of the late Jones Crosland and Rosa Ola Garvin Whittle. She was first married to the late Frank Seigler and then to the late Bill Griggs. She formerly owned a grocery store in Columbia, SC and was a member of Redds Branch Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Gail Dedmon (Stanley), Aiken; a son, Eddie Seigler, Aiken; a daughter-in-law, Donna Seigler; five grandchildren, Amee Payne, Lance Seigler, Frank Dedmon, Christopher Dedmon, Robbie Dedmon; three great-grandchildren, Alex Payne, Bryson Dedmon, Sean Dedmon; two sisters, Barbara W. Bentley, Aiken, Betty W. Smalley, Lexington; her brother, Charles Whittle, Bluffton; 32 nieces and nephews. In addition to her two husbands and parents, Mrs. Griggs was preceded in death by a son, Andy Seigler; two sisters, Jean W. Merrill, Maryhelen W. Plunkett; five brothers, Hoyt Whittle, Brantley Whittle, Ben Whittle, J.C. Whittle and Larry Whittle. A memorial service will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Redds Branch Baptist Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
