NEW ELLENTON, SC – ERNEST HAROLD OWEN, 87, beloved husband of Montez Masters Owen, died Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at University Hospital, Augusta, GA. A native of Lake Toxaway, NC, Harold was a son of the late William Jasper and Maude Patterson Owen. He was a veteran of the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army, serving as a Sergeant First Class in World War II and Korea. Harold moved to Aiken County in 1952 and retired as a supervisor with DuPont at the Savannah River Site. He was a member of Corrinth Baptist Church in New Ellenton. Survivors, in addition to his wife of 60 years, Montez, include two daughters, Venita Ellison, New Ellenton, Sandra Nimmons, New Ellenton; three sons, Jimmy Norris (Lydia), Williamston, SC, Michael Len Owen, New Ellenton, Keith Allan Owen, New Ellenton; two sisters, Juda Kilpatrick, Marietta, GA, Alice Couvillon, New Ellenton; half-sister, Lillian Zawyot, Balsam Grove, NC; half-brother, Cleon McCall, Brevard, NC; twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by two brothers, William Jasper Owen, Jr., Ralph Patterson; a sister, Frances Hunnicutt; two half-brothers, Truitt McColl and Harry McColl, a son-in-law, Bob Ellison. The family will receive friends Saturday morning beginning at 10 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home followed by the funeral service at 11 o’clock in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Brancie Stephens will officiate. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Memorial contributions may be directed to Helping Hands, P.O.
