AIKEN, SC – JERRY THORNTON HICKMAN, 61, beloved husband of Mary Benton Coleman Hickman, died Thursday, March 5, 2009 at his residence.
A native of Franklin, TN, Mr. Hickman was a son of the late James W. and Eleanor Bond Thornton Hickman, Sr. He served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Ulysses S. Grant. Jerry retired from the Department of Energy at the Savannah River Site. He was a member of the Church of Christ on Dibble Road.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Mary, include his step-mother, Sybil B. Hickman, Franklin, TN, a daughter, Amanda Jane Hickman, Greensboro, NC, two sons, David A. (Deedra) Hickman, Brandon, FL and Timothy B. Hickman, Aiken, SC, two grandchildren, Kassidy Wollert and Kourey Hickman, both of Brandon, FL, and two brothers, James W. (Gayle) Hickman, Jr, Franklin, TN and Michael O. (Lillian) Hickman, Woodbridge, VA.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Rd., Aiken, SC with Dan McMahan officiating. Interment, with military honors will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Saturday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Robbie Lynn, J. R. Ludwick, Lee Wilson, Doug Wolf, Dwain McMullin and Dan Starr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mark Harbison, Allan Clark, Mac McRae, John Coleman, Johnny Johnson, Randy Adkins and Barry Sanderson.
