AIKEN, SC – HAZEL OLIVIA ALLEN SANDERS RIDGEWAY, 79, died Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Centers.
A native of Pelzer SC, Hazel was a daughter of the late James and Mammie Lois McKee Allen. She was Valedictorian of Palmetto High School Class of 1953 and was a proud graduate of the Greenville General School of Nursing in 1957. Hazel was a registered nurse and retired from WSRC at the Savannah River Site. She lived in Aiken since 1974 and was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church, The Republican Party and Greenville General’s Nifty Fifty’s group. She was a former member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Ladies Shrine Guilds of America.
Survivors include a daughter, Olivia (Steven) McNorrill, Spartanburg, SC, a son, The Rev. Jimmy (Pam) Sanders, Summerville, SC; daughter-in-law, Pamela Kaye Sanders, Cowpens, SC; step-daughters, Brenda (Larry) Aldrich,Williston, SC, Diane McLean, Mills River, NC; step-sons, Michael (Sandra) Ridgeway,Williston, SC, David (Susan) Ridgeway, Aiken, SC; grandchildren, Craig (Kaitlyn), Sanders, Mikayla Sanders, Caitlin Sanders, Victoria McNorrill, Morgan McNorrill, Allen McNorrill; step-grandchildren, Sandra (Matthew) Moore, Hugh (Pamela) Birt, Tracie (Carl) Williams, Dr. Jim (Tori) Ridgeway, Kellie (Rodney) Bruner, Tommy (Brittni) Ridgeway, Kenny (Jenny) Ridgeway, Jason (Christine) Ridgeway, Dr. Ashley Ridgeway, Jessica (Tedmond) Melton; step-great-grandchildren, Carter Moore, Emma Moore, Oliver Birt, Harrison Williams, Abigail Williams, Blaise Ridgeway, Judah Ridgeway, Kipling Ridgeway, Piper Ridgeway, Darcey Ridgeway, Zackary Rhoden, Hayden Rhoden, Kylie Brunner, Zekariah Ridgeway, Zoeigh Ridgeway, Zephaniah Ridgeway; two brothers, William Allen, Williamston, SC, Lynn Allen, West Pelzer, SC.
In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her first husband, Larry W. Sanders, Sr., second husband, James Ridgeway, two sons, Douglas Erwin Sanders and Larry W. Sanders, Jr., a sister, Frances Moss and two brothers, Robert Allen and Richard Allen.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5 until 7 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be Saturday, November 28th at 3 o’clock in the afternoon at Millbrook Baptist Church with The Rev. Dr. Phillip Dunn officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Craig Sanders, Allen McNorrill, Butch Watson, Ric Sanders, Eddie Moss and Blake Allen.
