William "Bill" George Riehl

March 20, 1947 — November 24, 2015

AIKEN—Mr. William “Bill” George Riehl, 68, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2015. A Celebration of his Life will be held at 3 PM, Sunday, December 6, 2015 at Aiken’s First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Fred Andrea III officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor. A memorial service will also be held in Colton, NY, later this summer. Bill was born in Bethesda, MD, to William Riehl and Evelyn Dickie Riehl. He spent his career as a geologist living and working all over the world. After retiring to Aiken, his wife’s hometown, in 2006, he received a degree in music from USCA. His idea for a men’s acapella group turned into South Boundary, which he directed. He was most proud of the South Boundary USCA Music Scholarship, and the many boy’s choirs that he and South Boundary helped start. Bill spent his summers in his hometown of Colton, NY, where he established the Sunday Rock Legacy Project, a loving tribute to his mother’s musical talents and vision. Music, fly-fishing, woodworking, and playing duplicate bridge were some of his passions, but mostly he loved his family; his wife, Pat Tatum Riehl, his daughter, Alex Tatum Riehl, his son, Spencer Tatum Riehl, and his sister, Ann Riehl Smith, as well as his extended family. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, David Horton Riehl. Memorials may be directed to South Boundary USCA Scholarship, USCA Partnership, 471 University Parkway, Aiken SC, 29801, or to the Sunday Rock Legacy Project, Colton Historical Society, c/o Mary Jane Watson, P.O. box 387, South Colton, NY, 13687.
