December 7, 1946 — March 15, 2009

Charles Ray Hartline, 62, beloved husband of Janis Maria Greene Hartline, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, after a year-long courageous battle. A native of Aiken County, Mr. Hartline was a son of the late Henry A. and Annie Mae Smith Hartline. Survivors, in addition to his loving wife of 40 years, include his two daughters, Julie Hartline (David) Petersen of Aiken; Shelly Hartline (Tom) Farmer of Aiken; four granddaughters, Meghan Petersen, Caroline Petersen, Emma Farmer, and Charlotte Rae “Charlie” Farmer, all of Aiken; a sister, Mary Ann (Billy) Laurey of Barnwell; a brother, Jerry (Martha) Hartline, of Beech Island, SC; sister-in-law Jewell Tice and brother-in-law Vernon Tice of Holly Springs, North Carolina; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, his sister, Linda Hartline, preceded him in death. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Shellhouse Funeral Home, 924 Hayne Ave. A Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 PM at St. John’s United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dr. George K. Howle officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Leonard Yaun, Bill Hardy, Jeff Howell, Bob Marchal, John R. Thomas, Alex Collie, Walt Burckhalter and Randy Shelley. Charles was a man of deep faith, perseverance, and patience. He was a devoted, loving husband, dad, and papa and a fun-loving, loyal friend. He loved golf and enjoyed a reputation as a skilled, gentleman golfer. We are better for knowing and loving him.
