Earl R. Bruorton

AIKEN, SC – EARL R. BRUORTON, 83, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend died Saturday, April 04, 2009 at Select Specialty Hospital, Augusta, GA. A native of Hemingway, SC, Mr. Bruorton was a son of the late Josiah P. and Bertha Hill Bruorton. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina, and was a pilot in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He had lived in Aiken for the last 57 years, and was a retired accountant with DuPont at the Savannah River Plant. Mr. Bruorton was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, Green Boundary Club, Melrose Fishing Club and Houndslake Country Club. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Joan R. Basile, additional survivors include a daughter, Robin (Mrs. C. Richard) Bruorton Meese, Aiken, a son, E. Ryan Bruorton, Jr., Aiken, two step-daughters, Judge Tracey Carroll (Billy Fleury) Aiken, Christine Browning, Atlanta, a step-son, Edward (Amy Gibbons) Carroll, NY, NY, a granddaughter, Melanie W. (Mrs. Jerry K.) Taylor, six step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Savannah R., Rhett E. and Ethan R. Taylor. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of St. John’s United Methodist Church with The Rev. Dr. George K. Howle officiating.
