AIKEN, SC – Ms. Jill Hall Ryon, 75, of Aiken, passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2015, after a brief illness. Jill was surrounded by her family.
She is survived by children Julia (Julie) Plowden McKay of Maseru, Lesotho, Katherine (Kathy) Henry McKay of Spartanburg, SC, William (Bill) Ryon McKay of Syracuse, NY, and Elizabeth McKay Vanderpool of Beaufort, SC, sister Jane Ryon Robinson of New Orleans, LA, and grandchildren Megan Morris Wells, Maxwell (Max) Ryon Power, William Riley Power, Tessalee (Tess) Elizabeth McKay.
Born in New York City August 9, 1940 to William H. Ryon and Helen Hall Ryon, Jill moved from Catskill, New York to Aiken in 7th grade, attending St. Angela and Aiken Day School. A graduate of Aiken High School and the University of South Carolina, Jill is best known as co-founder of York Cottage Antiques and later, York Cottage Sales & Appraisals, from which she recently retired.
A long-time member of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, Jill has asked that memorial donations be made to her church in lieu of flowers, 125 Pendleton St SW, Aiken, SC 29801.
The family thanks Jill’s many friends and congregation members who have visited and provided delicious meals and support during Jill’s illness.
A memorial service will be held at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church on Wednesday, December 30, with a full Eucharist at 1:00 with the Rev. Grant Wiseman officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends and family will be received at Stevenson-McClelland Hall.
