NEW ELLENTON, SC - Mr. Eldon M. “Cork” Berry, 87 beloved husband of Jean Berry passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016 at his residence.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 o’clock at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 30th at Noon, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, New Ellenton with the Reverend Robert Reeves officiating. The family will receive friends from 11-12 before the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Berry was born in Valdese, NC on July 29, 1928 to the late Theodore Roosevelt Berry and Margaret Griffin Berry. He was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Berry retired after 37 years with E.I. Dupont De Nemours SRP Federal Credit Union and Westinghouse. Mr. Berry also served on the SRP Federal Credit Union Board of Directors for many years. He was a Master Mason for over fifty years. Mr. Berry was a faithful member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and served on numerous boards and committees.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jean Abernathy Berry, two daughters Deborah (Sanford) Kirkland, Beech Island, Rebecca Kizer, Knoxville, TN, a son Bruce Berry (Kathy) Evans, GA; five grandchildren Hope (Cliff) Hastings, Knoxville, Ryan (Stacie) Kizer, Louisville, KY, Emily (Caleb) Willing, Evans, Scott Berry, Evans, Ian Kizer, Knoxville; five great grandchildren, Cody Hastings, Knoxville, Kendall Hastings, Knoxville, Charlotte Willing, Evans, Mollie Willing, Evans, Everett Kizer, Louisville; a brother, Norman (Rita) Berry, Valdese, NC; two sisters, Ann Rawls, Hickory, NC, Helen (Dan) Faris, Charlotte, NC and a special family friend, Henry "Hank" Rowland.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Berry was preceded in death by his infant son Michael Alexander Berry, and sister Janet Berry.
