ANNANDALE, VA – ICC Chief, US Navy (Ret.) Robert Brunson “Boss” Fulmer, passed away Friday, February 12, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with the Reverend Vollie Gibbs officiating. Viewing and Visitation prior to service at 10 AM. Interment with full military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Zack Fulmer, Gene Ray Fulmer, Deno Verenes, Cortez Proctor, Matt Rosbrugh Purple, Brian Longauer, Dan Till, and Wade Fulmer. Honorary pallbearers will be Mack Fulmer, William C. Purple IV, Andrew Longauer, Dwight Beene, Kirk Beene, Derek Knapp, Sean Whitis. Robert was born in Aiken, a son of the late Wardlaw and Lula Johnson Fulmer, on July 29, 1922. He had been a resident of Fairfax County, VA since 1960, and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Springfield, VA. He retired from the US Navy with the rank of ICC Chief. He was a proud “swim-away” of the USS WASP that sunk on September 15, 1941 in Guadalcanal. He continued his career as an electrical engineer and a sewing center owner before he retired in 1990. Robert married Eleanor Marian Fulmer on May 22, 1942. They were married 49 years. Robert and Marian had two daughters. On April 3, 1992, he married long-time friend Vernice Vaughn Fulmer. They were married for 22 years. Together they combined an amazing family full of love and faith. Robert is survived by his wife of 22+ years, Vernice Vaughn Fulmer; two daughters Cherie Dianne Till and husband Dan of Ashburn, VA and Rosemary Fulmer Purple of Alexandria, VA; step-daughter Sharon Beene and husband Dwight of Fairfax, VA; grandchildren, Cherie Deborah Smith and husband David of Centreville, VA, Robert Weikle and wife Julie of Plattsburgh, NY, Jennifer Purple Longauer and husband Brian of Alexandria, VA, William C. Purple IV and wife Michelle of Studio City, CA, Darrell Weikle and wife Renee of Sterling, VA, and Sarah Dianne Waterfield and husband Richard of Grafenwoehr (Vilseck), Germany; Kirk Beene and wife Sarah of Centreville, VA, Heather Whitis and husband Sean of Herndon, VA, and Rebekah Knapp and husband Derek of Centreville, VA; and the loves of his life, 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-granddaughters; two sisters, Juanita (George) Verenes, Myrtle Beach, SC; Lona (Cortez) Proctor, Niceville, FL; numerous loving nieces and nephews.
