AIKEN, SC – BILLY D. MEDLIN, 83, husband of the late Margie Blizzard Medlin, died Thursday, February 18, 2016 at his residence in Aiken, SC.
A native of Acme, NC, Billy was a son of the late Fitzhugh and Alma Settlemeyer Medlin. He grew up in the Northwest Community and was a member of All Souls Episcopal Church. He graduated from Acme – Delco High School and served in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict. Billy married his wife of 53 years in 1952 while finishing out his Coast Guard duties. They moved to New Ellenton, SC in 1954 when he began work at E. I. Du Pont. After 29 years, Billy retired and they returned to their hometown. Billy had just recently moved back to Aiken to live close to his daughters and their families. All his life, Billy was a sports enthusiast. He was a baseball player in high school and while he lived in New Ellenton, he played men's softball for the Jaycee's and coached Pony League Baseball. Billy loved reading history books and could give a history lesson from memory. Not only did Billy love cars and NASCAR, he loved trains and spent many hours building railroad tracks in his home. Survivors include three daughters, Robin Hicks (Jody), Lutz, FL, Natalie Himsey (Danny), Aiken, Lisa Loudermilk (Frank), Aiken; six grandchildren Brannon Brown (Darlene), Bridget Sullivan (Ross), Stephanie Overcash (Jason), Matt Key (Laura), Anna Lyons (Trevor) and Jordan Hicks; six great-grandchildren, Tanner Sullivan, Ila Grace Overcash, Baylee Lyons, Amelia Brown, Mila Key and Ellis Overcash; a sister, Jerry Brown, Wilmington, NC; two brothers, Kenneth Medlin (Bobbie Lou), Riegelwood, NC and Ronnie Medlin (Kathy), Riegelwood, NC. Billy had many wonderful nurses and a dear family friend, Ellie Cheek. In addition to his beloved wife and parents, Billy was preceded in death by two brothers, Bo Medlin and Morgan Medlin.
The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, February 21st, beginning at 3 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home followed by a funeral service at 4 o’clock. The Rev. Mike Brendel will officiate. The family will also receive friends Monday afternoon, February 22nd, beginning at 1 o’clock at All Souls Episcopal Church in the Northwest Community near Leland, NC followed by a funeral service at 2 o’clock. Interment will follow in the Medlin Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Arden Medlin, Allen Medlin, Dustin Medlin, Donald Brown, Mike Clayter and Jeff Wilder.
