Dr. Niren Vyas

AIKEN, SC – DR. NIRANJAN (NIREN) M. VYAS, 78, died Monday, February 22, in Aiken, SC. Dr. Vyas was born in India on November 18, 1937. He received an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering and an MBA from Cleveland State University. He also held a Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of South Carolina. He was a committed academician and spent his long, distinguished career working with international corporations located on three continents: Asia, Europe, and North America for 27 years. Additionally he also worked in academia for 14 years, with 9 of those years as the Dean of the Business School at the University of South Carolina - Aiken. Dr. Vyas retired as Distinguished Professor Emeritus in July, 2003. Dr. Vyas traveled extensively all over the world for corporate business and to attend academic conferences. He has published 31 papers and authored several books. In 2004, He went to Kathmandu University in Nepal as Fulbright Scholar for two semesters teaching Executive MBA students. In 2005, he was sent again to Nepal as Fulbright Consultant to Pokhara University. Dr. Vyas was also deeply committed to improving educational opportunities for students in India and was an active member of several organizations oversees. Survivors include a son and daughter, Vipul Vyas (Palo Alto, CA), Alpa Vyas (San Francisco, CA) and a grandson, Arjun Vyas. A memorial service will be held on Saturday afternoon, February 27th, beginning at 1 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Urmila & Jaya Vyas Memorial Scholarship fund.
