Susan Ellen Kinney Podewils

AIKEN, SC - Susan Ellen Podewils (“Sue”) née Susan Ellen Kinney died peacefully in her home on February 26, 2016 in Aiken, South Carolina at the age of 72 years. Sue is survived by her loving husband, Robert Clark Podewils “Bob”; her devoted children, Lisa Podewils Korologos of New York, NY, Robert Vernon Podewils of Charlotte, NC and John David Podewils of Darien, CT; and her beloved grandchildren, Jack Christopher and Alexa Joy Korologos, Samantha Olivia and Nicole Elizabeth Podewils, and Reilly Griffin Podewils. Sue was born on February 8, 1944, in St. Paul, MN to Vernon and Ellen Kinney. She graduated from Central High School in St. Paul, MN in 1962. She married Bob on September 24, 1963. Over the next years, the couple moved between homes in Minnesota, California and New York as a result of Bob’s career with Cargill Inc. and raised their three children. Her children remember her as a beloved mother who loved them unconditionally and always encouraged them to pursue their goals. Lisa is an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York, Robert is a commercial real estate broker in Charlotte, NC and John is a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch in Darien, CT. Bob and Sue recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in Charlotte, NC. Sue was a dear and generous woman. She loved spending time with her family and friends, traveling to warm locations especially Anguilla, shrewdly investing in the stock market, enjoying dinner with the Bentley Babes, watching sports and Fox News, spending time in her garden, and bragging about her wonderful grandchildren. Sue was an active and dedicated member of the Gamma Omega Sorority and often volunteered with the Sorority, helping our United States soldiers serving overseas and other charitable endeavors in support of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. She was raised in the Lutheran faith. A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at The Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral home on Pine Log Rd., with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Sue’s life.
