AIKEN – Mr. William "Bill" Warren Whalen, 93, passed away suddenly on Friday, March 18, 2016.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, March 21, 2016 at Millbrook Baptist Church. The Reverend Dr. Philip Dunn and the Reverend Dr. Henry Chennault will officiate. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Steve Corley, Marvin Bishop, Owen Heyward, Bob Gatanis, Harry Harmon, and Houston Brown.
Honorary pallbearers will be The Whittlers.
Mr. Whalen was born in Harriman, TN, a son of the late Ogden and Jesse Davis Whalen. He moved to Aiken in 1970, and was a Craft Superintendent at the Savannah River Plant. He retired after 23 years working for E. I. DuPont. As a member of Millbrook Baptist Church, Bill served as a Deacon, a Sunday School teacher, started the Millbrook Whittlers, and built the first Living Christmas Tree. He was also an avid golfer.
He is survived by his grandson, Gary (Janet) Buck, Aiken; great grandchildren, Hannah Buck, Naomi Buck, Jacob Buck; son in law, Eddie Buck, Aiken; two brothers, Max (Vontella) Whalen, Harriman, TN, Tony (Onita) Whalen, Harriman, TN.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Whalen was preceded in death by his daughters, Carolyn S. Buck and Deborah Gayle Whalen, sisters June Pyle, Mary Sue Whalen, brother Don Whalen, first wife Virginia P. Whalen, and second wife Ruth Rawlings Whalen.
