AIKEN, SC - Lewis William “Bill” Hook. Jr., 66, passed away in the company of close friends on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
Bill was born in Savannah, Ga. on May 25, 1949, his father’s birthday. It is interesting to note that he also died on his father’s death date, April 16.
He has been a resident of Aiken for many years, after growing up in Statesboro and living there and on Saint Simons Island, before retiring as President and COO of Robbins Packing Company in Statesboro. Since his retirement, he has made Aiken his home and has been an active part of the community.
He graduated from Statesboro High School in 1967, and from the University of Georgia Terry College of Business in 1973, with a BBA in General Business. He was a ‘rabid’ UGA Bulldog fan, and a member of the Georgia Beta chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Lauren Hook of Savannah, his sister, Jane Hook Holmes, of Saint Simons Island, his brothers, Jeff (Tina) and Tom Hook of Statesboro, niece Emmie Holmes of Mount Pleasant, SC, nephew, Brewer Holmes (Ashley) of Saint Simons, nephews Will and Colby Hook of Statesboro, great nephews Bo and JT Holmes of Saint Simons, and several cousins.
Bill's passion for action and the outdoors included motocross racing, hunting, fishing, skiing, polo, fox hunting, shooting, ice fishing, court tennis and golf. He also dearly loved his animals- horses, dogs, and mules.
He served on the board of the Aiken Polo Club, was a member of the Palmetto Golf Club, and the Aiken Tennis Club. He was a former member of the Aiken Hounds and the Whiskey Hounds.
Friends and loved ones are invited to a celebration of life gathering at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro from 5:30-7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 20.
