BUNEAS AIRES, ARGENTINA - Francis Wyman Knight, 74, passed away April 22, 2016 in a hospital in Buenos Aires, Argentina after a short illness. Born and raised in Aiken, SC, he was a son of the late Kenneth Nelson Knight and Ellen Claire Smith Knight. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Knight and Benny Knight; a sister, Ellen Thompson; brothers-in-law Ronald Holland and Buford McGee; and a nephew, Scott Knight.
Francis was a 1960 graduate of Aiken High School. He attended Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, NC before enlisting in the Air Force in 1962. After being discharged in 1965, he moved to New York City where he received a BA degree from Columbia University. He went on to earn a MA in Spanish from the University of Madrid.
He was a long time resident of Charleston, SC and Philadelphia, PA where he leaves behind many life long friends who will always remember his laugh.
He is survived by his brother, Bobby Knight (Evelyn) of Aiken, SC; two sisters, Kitty Holland-Johnson (Ben) of Gastonia, NC and Ann McGee of Aiken, SC; niece, Catharine Holland of Mt. Pleasant, SC, who was like a sister; sister-in-law, Pat Knight of North Augusta, SC; brother-in-law, Dick Thompson of Greensboro, NC; and many loved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews and a great-great nephew.
Burial will be private.
