Simmie Gaffney, Jr.

AIKEN – Mr. Simmie Gaffney, Jr., 66, died Friday, May 15, 2009. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday in the Shellhouse Funeral Home Chapel, Hayne Ave., with Evangelist Beatrice Barron and Deacon Eddie Green officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Gaffney was born in Barnwell, SC, a son of the late Simmie Gaffney, Sr. and Maggie Minor Gaffney. He lived in Harlem, NY for 38 years, was an entrepreneur and owner of S.G. Rubbish Removal. He moved back to Aiken in 2006, and was a member of Summer Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include his daughters, Yvonne (Christopher) Higgins, Queens, NY, Angela (Alan) Awal, Manhattan, NY, Rowena (Anthony) Perry, Manhattan; a son, Gerald Leon Gaffney, Manhattan; nine grandchildren, George Higgins, Gerald Gaffney, Jr., Carlton Leon Gaffney, Pearl Vega, Calvin Gaffney, Benjamin Gaffney, Andrew Samuel Gaffney, Amanda Nicole Awal, Allison Nicole Awal, Allison Mary Esannason; four great grandchildren, Nicole Vega, Shawn Williams, Andrew Gaffney, Jr., Andrew Jamel Gaffney; five sisters, Liz Cummings, Mattie Sligh, Lillie M. Gaffney, Willie Mae (Will) Samuels, Melissa Gaffney, all of Aiken; two brothers, Daniel Gaffney, William Gaffney, both of Aiken; Mother in law, Daisy Johnson, Aiken; devoted friend, Delores Spann, Aiken; and former wife, Pearl Johnson Gaffney, NY, NY In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Samuel Gaffney, and brother, Timothy Gaffney.
