AIKEN, SC – ROBERT W. “SMOKEY” BROOKS, 70, beloved husband of Virginia Sinclair “Dee Dee” Brooks, died Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at his residence.
Smokey was born on February 8, 1939 in Shaler, IA to George Edward and Alice McMullen Brooks. He proudly served his country in the Air Force and the Army. He had lived in Aiken for 44 years and formerly worked at Owens Corning Fiberglass for 19 years, and then retired from security at Woodside Plantation where he manned the East Gate. Mr. Brooks was Past Worshipful Master of Aiken Masonic Lodge # 156, and was currently the chairman of the education committee, he was Past Excellent High Priest of Kadoshlayah Chapter # 41 R.A.M., Past Illustrious Master of Aiken Council # 24 R.@S.M., Past Eminent Commander of Aiken Commandery # 14 K.T., member of the Aiken Council of Allied Masonic Degrees, Red Cross of Constantine, Knight Masons, Aiken Lodge of Perfection, A.A.S.R., Columbia Scottish Rite Bodies, and was currently serving as an officer in the Grand Chapter R.A.M. of South Carolina.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Dee Dee, include a daughter, Kelly (Brion) Frontroth of Aiken, a son, Kenneth (Roni) Brooks of Acworth, GA, three grandchildren, Victor Frontroth, Micenna Brooks and Brandee Hughes and a great-grandson, Dawson Caleb Hughes.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM at South Aiken Presbyterian Church. Interment with Military Honors and Masonic Rites will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 PM at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Rd., Aiken, SC.
