AIKEN - Victor W. ‘Vic’ Johnson was born March 10, 1929. He died May 7, 2016. Vic’s parents were Dr. Harley Monroe Johnson and Evie Keel Johnson. He had two older sisters: Louise and Marie; and three older brothers: Charlie, Monroe, and Edward. All predeceased him. Surviving is his beloved first cousin Virginia Keel Prokop. Vic’s family moved to Aiken in 1935. He graduated from Aiken High School in 1946 and the University of South Carolina in 1950. At USC he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa. After college Vic worked for the AEC, and was a guard on the barge which brought the first reactor from NY to SRP. Later, he was hired by DuPont to work in Area 100K, and was a president of the ORA. In 1955 Vic and Dan Hamann opened ‘The Patio’ which provided floral services in Aiken for over 30 years – first in Mattie Hall’s ‘The Barn’, then in their Whiskey Road shop. Hamann & Johnson Interiors decorated ‘Rye Patch’, ‘Black Stables’, ‘Uncle John’s Cabin’, ‘Sumter Cottage’, and other homes. They also converted Whitney Stables to residential use and designed ‘Rosalee’s’ dress shop on Laurens. A special thank you to the staff and nurses of Azaleawoods for the care they provided Vic throughout his travail with dementia. No services are planned. Interment will be private.
