AIKEN – Mrs. Virginia “Ginny” Foster Peterson, 74, died Sunday, May 8, 2016.
She was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, godmother and friend. She is loved by many.
Ginny was born in Chattanooga, TN, daughter of the late John Nicholson Foster and the late Mary Ella Banks Foster. She was a graduate of the University of Chattanooga and began a career in Chattanooga as a first-grade teacher. She has lived in Aiken since 1968.
She loved the Lord and was a powerful witness to her faith. She was a lifelong Episcopalian and was active at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church since moving to Aiken. She was an acolyte, Lay Eucharistic Minister and Lector. She served on the Vestry where she chaired the Christian Formation and Worship & Music Committees. She had a passion for Christian Education, especially for elementary aged children. She was active in Renewal through the Cursillo Movement and at Kanuga Renewal Conferences. She served on the Kanuga Conference Center Board of Visitors.
She was a charter member of The Aiken Hearts, Chapter #294 of the Mended Hearts, Inc. and an accredited visitor for Mended Hearts at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
She touched countless people by writing encouraging notes and remembering them with cards for all occasions.
She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Stephen F. Peterson; a son, Foster Joseph Peterson and daughter-in-law, Bliss Ann Peterson; four grandchildren: Carter James Peterson, Hunter Banks Peterson, John Baldwin Peterson and Henry Foster Peterson, all of Marietta, GA, and numerous godchildren. Her best friend and surrogate sister, Emily Carter Moore, preceded her in death.
Ginny's family is grateful for the recent care provided by the physicians, nurses and staff in the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit at the Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church with the Reverend Grant Wiseman officiating and the Reverend Joseph Whitehurst assisting. Interment will be in the church cemetery, and the family will receive friends in the Stevenson-McClelland building following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church Christian Education Fund, 125 Pendleton St. SW, Aiken, SC 29801 or to a charity of your choice.
