AIKEN, SC – LIN BRETT, 72, died Saturday, May 7, 2016 at her residence in Aiken, SC.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, Lin was a daughter of the late Dr. Benjamin Louis and Edith Hassan Brett. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 1965 with a BA in Psychology. Lin moved to Davie, Florida, in 1972. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Nova University in 1978 with a Juris Doctor and was admitted to the Florida Bar. Her professional career was spent in the Greater Ft. Lauderdale – Miami metropolitan area practicing as a federal trial attorney. She later was considered for a federal judgeship. Lin served as an officer in the Ft. Lauderdale Chapter of the Navy League. She moved to South Carolina and lived the last decade in Aiken.
Known by many for her personal style and love of hats, long-time friends remark on Lin’s ability to bring elegance and frequent, hearty laughter, a wry sense of humor and quick mind for solving problems that will be lovingly remembered, and missed. She was a grateful parishioner of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church and embraced Aiken’s natural surrounds and fellowship.
Survivors include her daughter, Dania Brett, San Diego, CA; her son, David Brett-Major, Bethesda, MD; three granddaughters, Anastasia, Olivia and Rebecca; a sister, Marcia Brett, Eugene, OR and a brother, Steven Brett, Berkeley, CA.
A quiet memorial service in a natural setting is planned for 2017.
