AIKEN - Mrs. Louise Anderson Stribling, 93, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2016 peacefully in her home with family at her side.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, June 25, 2016 at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church with the Rev. Joseph Whitehurst officiating. The family will receive friends in the Stevenson-McClelland building following the service.
Mrs. Stribling was born in New Haven, CT to the late Frank Alden and Helen Bogart Anderson. She grew up in Bronxville, NY. She was voted wittiest in her senior high school class and remained so throughout her life. She loved summers at Piseco Lake in the NY Adirondacks. She attended NJC Douglas (Rutgers). Prior to marriage, she worked for an advertising agency in NYC that was located half way up the empire state building. She loved to ski and met her future husband on a t-bar. She married George T. Stribling in 1950. While he was in the Navy they lived in New Mexico until his assignment took him overseas. She was the love of his life and they were married for 57 years. They lived in Madison, NJ for years where she was active in many volunteer activities. She especially enjoyed working in children's and puppet theater with the Junior League. In 1971 the Striblings moved to Aiken which they loved. She became very active in the community and was a big fan of Sunday polo at the Whitney Polo field.
Mrs. Stribling was a member of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, and then one of the founding members of All Saints Anglican Church. She was active in the Garden Club of Aiken, DAR, Hospital and Relief Society, Aiken Historical Society and the Junior League of Augusta, among others. She was a member of Palmetto Golf Club and Highland Golf Club.
She loved being a homemaker and entertaining in her old home and was happiest in later years enjoying backyard birds, playing family bridge and with her grandkids splashing in the pool.
She is survived by her two daughters, Susan Stribling, Aiken, Margaret Stribling Mumford (Daniel), Junction City, Oregon, a son; James T. Stribling, Tampa, FL, four grandchildren; Colleen, Emily, Danielle and Franklin Mumford, She was also lovingly cared for by Jennifer and Katelyn with Tri-County Hospice and dear friend Janet.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stribling was preceded in death by her loving husband, George “T” Taliaferro Stribling and her big brother, Alden Anderson, and sister-in-law, Carolyn Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the SPCA of Aiken, 199 Willow Run Rd, Aiken, SC 29801 from whom they adopted two beloved (and lucky) dogs over the years or an organization of your choice.
