AIKEN - Anne Randolph Shortt Barham passed away on May 11, 2016, following a brief illness.
A memorial service will be held at St. John’s United Methodist Church on Monday, May 16, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Nancy Reed officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in Ward Hall. Interment will be private in Historic Bethany Cemetery.
Anne was born October 9, 1934 in Marlinton, WV. She was the daughter of the late Randolph Knox Shortt and Mildred Lee Rose Shortt. Because of her father’s work as a civil engineer, Anne grew up in many different towns throughout her childhood. She graduated from John Marshall High School in Richmond, Virginia. She attended The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. Anne was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She was an elementary school teacher having taught second grade in Richmond, Va. and Charleston, SC.
She met the love of her life, Dr. James Raynor Barham, Jr. (“Jim”), while attending William & Mary. They were married on June 21, 1957. She and Jim moved to Aiken in 1967, where they raised their three girls, Anne Barham Jones (Steve), Aiken, Elizabeth Barham Cerrow (Mark), Richmond, VA, and Ellen Barham Walker (Jeff), Greenville, SC. She was actively involved in her girl’s lives as Sunday School Teacher, Girl Scout Leader and official chauffeur for the girl’s various activities. After her girls left home, she switched careers and became Jim’s official bookkeeper at Aiken Child & Adolescent Clinic.
She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, Aiken, SC having served on the Pastor Parish Relations Committee, Board of Trustees & Administrative Board and Altar Guild. Anne was a member of the Aiken Jr. Women’s Club, Aiken County Medical Association Alliance, Aiken Women’s Heart Board, Quadrille and Cotillion Dance Clubs. She was also actively involved in her friends and families lives, including Bridge Clubs, Out to Lunch Bunch and competitive tennis.
In addition to her children, Anne was “Nana” to her three grandchildren; Andrew Raynor Jones, Caroline Rebekah Jones Burris (Joe) and Charlotte Anneliese Walker, and her three great grandchildren – Nathan Matthew Jones, Ainsley Grace Jones and Autumn Violet Jones. Anne was actively involved in their lives and was proud of them and they were dearly loved.
The family would like to thank all of the friends and family that have been so supportive during her illness as well as Trinity Home Health, the good doctors and nurses at Aiken Regional Medical Centers, especially the nurses and staff in ICU for their outstanding care.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at SHELLHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 924 HAYNE AVE., AIKEN, SC 29801
