AIKEN, SC – KENNETH ROBERT ZIOMEK, 72, beloved husband of Margaret Garner “Peggy” Ziomek, died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at his residence. A native of Detroit, MI, Kenneth was a son of the late Anthony John and Mary Deloris Bugala Ziomek. He graduated from Wayne State University with a B.A. in Business Administration. While he spent most of his life working for Michigan Bell and AT&T, his true love was helping others. Nothing gave him greater pleasure than the time he devoted to Peggy, his wife of nearly 50 years. He showed the same dedication to his children and grandchildren. He never failed to step forward as a volunteer in their lives, from Cub Scouts to coaching their little league teams, Ken was always there.
Ken and Peg retired to Aiken in 2002. It had long been a dream of his to live on a golf course and Woodside Plantation was the perfect community. Even when he could no longer play golf, Ken continued with what had long been his favorite pastime: fishing. He loved to fish, and it was a passion he shared with others. Ken was full of stories of teaching his neighbors and frequently, their grandchildren, how to hook the biggest bass in the lake. He organized fishing competitions at Woodside as well as programs for children.
Ken’s interests weren’t limited to fishing and golf. After he retired, he developed an interest in acting, working as an extra in movies with both George Clooney and Kevin Bacon. His favorite, however, and the movie he couldn’t stop talking about, was the work he did in Who’s Your Caddie, which was filmed in Aiken.
In addition to his wife Peggy, Ken is survived by his three children, Steven Craig Ziomek (Dori) of Medford, NJ, Robert Craig Ziomek (Karen) of Flanders, NJ, Dana Lynne Ziomek Freeman (Kyle) of Charlotte, NC; six grandchildren, Robert and Jena Ziomek, Amanda and Ian Ziomek, Elizabeth and Margaret Freeman; a sister, Marcia Sue Safran (John), Canton, MI; a brother, Anthony Alan Ziomek (Pamela), Aiken, SC.
A memorial service will be held Sunday afternoon, June 5th at 2 o’clock at St. John’s United Methodist Church with The Revs. Kristin Dollar and Nancy Reed officiating. A reception will be in Ward Hall following the service.
