NEW ELLENTON, SC – MARY LOUISE KEY, 82, beloved wife of Claude J. Key, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at her residence in New Ellenton.
A native of St. Augustine, FL, Mrs. Key was a daughter of the late Ellis and Mattie Mixon Kelley. She was a registered nurse and worked at the 376 Station Hospital in Japan post World War II thru the Korean Conflict. She later retired from the VA Medical Center in Augusta, GA. Mrs. Key had lived in Aiken since 1978 and was a member of Talatha Baptist Church where she was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class.
Survivors, in addition to her husband Claude, include three daughters, Gail (John) Bowles, Barnesville, GA, Brenda Joy (John) Dininger, Niceville, FL and Viola Key (Billy) Bell, Windsor, SC, three sons, Phillip Allen (Nancy) Fitch, Milton, GA, Bobby Key, New Ellenton and Jesse (Vickie) Key, Aiken, SC, 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Linda Clark, Eustis, FL and Patricia (Buddy) Monteleone, Vero Beach, FL. Her sister, Lucy Rae Harris, preceded her in death.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 1:00 PM at Talatha Baptist Church with The Rev.’s Dr. Henry L. Chennault and David Little officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Key, Billy Key, Charles Barton, Ronnie Barton, Kenneth Martin and. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Friendship Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Rd., Aiken, SC.
