Larry Joe Kusz

December 25, 1942 — June 26, 2016

Larry Joe Kusz, 73, loving husband of Susan (Gruschow) Keys and father of Mette, Lawrence and Joe, passed away peacefully at his residence Sunday, June 26, 2016. Born in Highland Park, Michigan, a graduate of Flat Rock High School, he and Sue moved to Aiken, SC in 2015 after 15 years in southwest Florida, from Rochester, MI. Larry served in the Air Force and as a purchasing agent for Ford Motor Company. He introduced his children to flying lessons at a young age; his daughter Mette making her career as a pilot for SAS. A sports fan forever, Larry treated his son Lawrence to Detroit Tigers opening day tickets. Granddaughters Anna and Caroline remember the "sweet" words Larry had for all he met. "Morfar, (Danish: mother's father) we love you to the next galaxy and back!" Always healthy and active, Larry enjoyed social and league tennis. For 10 years, he organized a weekly six court doubles mixer and used his piercing down the line shot to help his team win multiple USTA section championships. He played a friendly game of golf, and armed with his hippo chipper, he was a force to be reckoned around the greens. Whether exploring little known roads in his convertible, flying or cruising the world, Larry was well traveled. An invitation to Kusz's whether for a gourmet dinner, white elephant or Kentucky Derby golf tournament/party is a treasured memory for many, Larry reigned as the gracious host. Larry is remembered by his daughter Mette Bastholm (Dwayne) Sorensen, Biltris, Denmark and sons Lawrence Joseph Kusznierewicz, Gold Coast, Australia and Victor Joe (Thu) Sorensen, Aalborg, Denmark. He was predeceased by his parents Victor and Mary (Maciejewski) Kusz, brother Tadeus and best friend Larry "Monzie" Edmonds. A celebration of life service will be held in Florida at a later date. Memorials may be sent to the Cancer Research Institute cancerresearch.org, Aiken County Habitat for Humanity habitataiken.org or to The American Legion legion.org SHELLHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 924 HAYNE AVE., AIKEN, SC His online guestbook may be signed at www.shellhousefuneralhome.com To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Larry Joe Kusz, please visit our flower store.
