AIKEN, SC – PAUL H. PINSON, SR., 86, beloved husband of Maude Kammer Pinson, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Elmcroft of Martinez. A native of McCormick, SC, Mr. Pinson was a son of the late Frank Maynard and Mattie White Pinson. He grew up in McCormick and then entered the Maritime Service just prior to Pearl Harbor. He served in the Naval Reserves before joining the Merchant Marines in December 1941. Within a year he entered Officer Candidate School and within 2 years, at age 24, was the youngest to rise to the rank of Chief Engineer. He met and married his wife, Maude in 1944, and remained in the Merchant Marines until 1952. He then moved to Aiken and went to work at E. I. DuPont at the Savannah River Plant as a power supervisor. He retired in 1973 and then worked for Allied General Nuclear Services in Barnwell until he retired from that company in 1983. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Pairs and Spares and was a 32 degree Mason. Survivors, in addition to his wife Maude, include a daughter, Doreen Ann (Jim) Paschal, Augusta, GA, three sons, Paul Harold (Nancy) Pinson, Jr., Wilmington, DE, John Edward (Jenene) Pinson, Mauldin, SC, and Dr. David Michael (Margie) Pinson, Overland Park, KS, two sisters, Helen P. (Chuck) LaRoche, Carson City, NV and Harriett P. Potter, Carson City, NV, a brother, Frank M. (Rosa) Pinson, Jr., Fountain Inn, SC, eight grandchildren, Nathan Pinson, Matthew Pinson, Laura Pinson, Katheryn (David) Bauer, David (Adria) Brizius, Daniel Cornetti, Hannah Pinson and Haley Pinson, three step-grandchildren, Beth, Ellen and Emily, and a great-grandson, Jakub Brizius. The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 11 AM at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Rd., Aiken, SC, with Paul H. Pinson, Jr. officiating. Private entombment will take place in Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 AM at the funeral home, prior to the service.
