James A. Brown, 78, went to be with the Lord on June 2, 2009, at his residence. He was a husband of 53 years of Carolyn (Patty) Moseley Brown. Born on Feb. 23, 1931, in Jenkins County, Ga., he was the son of Marie and Neal Brown of Augusta. He lived most of his life in Aiken. He worked at SRS and was a salesman for Life of Virginia. He loved growing roses and fruit trees. He was a member of Levels Baptist Church, Aiken.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Carolyn (James) Brown Folk, James A. Brown Jr. and Jackie Smith; and grandchildren, James Patrick Folk, Kim Leonard and Travis Smith.

Pallbeares will be Steve Moseley, Keith Moseley, Collin Morris, John Nayler, David Moseley and Joel Wise. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Youngblood, Allen Sturkie, Tommy Davis, Wyman Corley, Perry Byrd and Earl Young.
Services will be held Friday, June 5 at 3 p.m. at Levels Baptist Church, Aiken. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at Shellhouse Funeral Home, 924 Hayne Ave., Aiken, on Thursday, June 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Levels Baptist Church Building Fund.
