James Allen Roach

AIKEN, SC – JAMES ALLEN ROACH, 73, died Sunday, July 10, 2016 at his residence. A native of Union City, TN, James was a son of the late Elbert Allen and Bessie Jones Roach.  He graduated high school in 1959 and attended the Martin branch of The University of Tennessee for 2 years.  He received his BS in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Tennessee.  James retired from Westinghouse at the Savannah River Site in 2006 with forty two years of engineering service.  He was an instructor of Continuing Engineering Education, Clemson University.  He was a member of the Williston, SC Masonic Lodge, 32nd Degree Mason, Scottish Rites, Portland, Maine, Kora Shrine Temple, Lewiston, Maine.  James was an avid hunter, fisherman and UT sports fan. Survivors include his son, Phillip Allen Roach, Aiken; former wife, Jennie Roach, Aiken, three nephews, Joedy Tarkington, South Fulton, TN, Tony Slaughter, Fresno, CA and Jack Enochs, Houston, TX.  In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his daughter, Robin Lee Towe. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, July 14th from 6 until 8 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home. The funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 o’clock at the funeral home with The Rev. Dr. Henry L. Chennault officiating.  Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Les Hutsell, Jerry Patterson, Bill Bullard, James Tew, Jack Enochs and Joedy Tarkington.
