George Hatcher Busbee

Aiken - Mr. George Hatcher Busbee, 86, died Monday June 15, 2009 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday in the Shellhouse Funeral Home Chapel, Hayne Ave. Reverend Dr. Fred Andrea III will officiate. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be the Honorable Donald Hatcher, Paul Scott, Keith Willis, Bryan Willis, Jimmy Vanderley, Paton Northington, Joel Schaffer and Charles Busbee. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Williamson Sunday School Class, and the Kalmia Landing Mens' Association. A lifelong resident of Aiken, Mr. Busbee was a son of the late Walter Allen and Verlie Hatcher Busbee. He served in the US Army during WWII under General Patton, and received a Purple Heart for being wounded in the line of duty. He was a member of American Legion Post 77 and worked for the Graniteville Company. He was a former member and deacon of Marion Street Baptist Church. He moved his membership to First Baptist Church and was in the Williamson Sunday School Class. He is survived by his wife, to whom he recently celebrated 59 years of marriage, Ellen Willis Busbee; a son, Ralph G. (Elizabeth) Busbee, Lexington; a granddaughter Ashley Elisabeth Busbee, Charleston, SC; a brother W. Ernest Busbee, Aiken; a number of nieces and nephews.
