AIKEN, SC – ROBERT HARRISON LANE, 85, beloved husband of Arlene Bedau Lane, died Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Harbor Chase of Aiken.
A native of Brooklyn, NY, Bob was a son of the late Stephen V. and Ethel Harrison Lane. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. For many years Bob was an avid small boat sailor, sailing and racing on the Chesapeake Bay and on Deep Creek Lake in Maryland. He worked with Westinghouse for over 35 years and moved to Aiken in 1989 from Pittsburgh, PA. Bob was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Aiken where he was a former member of the Sanctuary Choir. Bob enjoyed taking oil painting classes at USC-Aiken and was active in the USCA Academy for Life-Long Learning. His hobbies included oil painting and beer brewing.
Survivors, in addition to his beloved wife Arlene, include a sister, Marilynn Morris, Toms River, NJ; a brother, Stephen V. Lane, Palm Beach Gardens, FL; nine nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Emmy.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at First Presbyterian Church.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Friends of the Animal Shelter ( www.fotasaiken.org ) or to First Presbyterian Church Choir.
