AIKEN - Verita Sandifer DeWitt, 84, died June 21, 2009 at Eden Gardens.
Funeral services will be held at 11 Am Wednesday June 24 in the Shellhouse Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Stephen Phillips will officiate. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the DAV.
Mrs. DeWitt was born in Orangeburg County, SC, a daughter of the late James A. and Mary Joiner Sandifer. She was an active member and past Commander of the DAV Auxiliary, a member of the Gold Star Wives of America, and a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class at Redds Branch Baptist Church.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Eden Gardens and Regency Hospice.
Survivors include her two daughters, Sandra (Donald) Jackson, Aiken, Joyce (Maxie) Pearson, Trenton, SC; a son, Lamar DeWitt, Cayce, SC; five grandchildren, Kimberly Reeves, Rhonda Gates, Theresa Hutto, Donna Bennett, Donald Jackson, Jr.; great grandchildren, Lunden Hutto, Daniel Reeves, Drew Reeves, Swade Hutto; numerous step grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Thurston Hollar, second husband, John Bertrum DeWitt, and son, James T. Hollar
