Henry Peter Bisschop, 87 died on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 in his apartment at Cumberland Village. He was born in Virginia to the late Sir Pieter and Henrietta Hennick Bisschop, natives of the Netherlands.
Mr. Bisschop graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and earned a Master’s Degree in Business from George Washington University. He served in the military, then worked for the U.S. State Department for many years. He and his wife Pat retired to live in Aiken in 1977.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and sang in the sanctuary choir. He was a member of the Aiken Symphony Guild, the Aiken Arts Council, and the Aiken Choral Society. He was an active supporter of ACTS (Aiken Churches Together Serving), which was founded by his wife and their pastor in 1986.
Mr. Bisschop was preceded in death by his parents, a brother John H. Bisschop, and his wife Patricia Smith Bisschop. Survivors include a niece, Shirley Hall from Indiana, a niece Linda Ladd from Florida, a nephew, Gene Cramer from Florida, and several great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, August 8 at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. David Cozad officiating. Burial will be private. Friends may greet the family at a reception in the church fellowship hall following the service.
