AIKEN, SC – WILLIAM T. “Billy” CROUCH, 56, died Monday, July 27, 2009 at his residence.
A son of the late William H. “Tom” and Helen J. “Pat” Sanders Crouch, he was born in Atlanta on December 16, 1952 and lived his entire life in Aiken, SC.
Billy attended Meade Hall and St. Angela Academy where he was an outstanding basketball player. He also attended U.S.C. Aiken and Aiken Technical College. He was the owner and operator of Aiken Bowl, which his father built in 1953 and operated until his retirement.
Billy is survived by his aunt and uncle, Brenda and Bob Sanders of Lawrenceville, GA and many cousins. His interest in history and genealogy led him to Edgefield, SC where both Crouch and Sanders ancestors lived from the 1700’s.
He was a member of the SCV Camp 1245, Aiken, SC and the M.O.S. & B Maxey Gregg Chapter. He was a lifetime member of the S.A.R. (Sons of the American Revolution). He was most proud of his membership in Aiken Masonic Lodge 156 A.F.M. and the Aiken Shrine Club, Jamil Temple.
Billy lived his life with gusto and saw each day as another opportunity to share with friends and family. He was “Mr. South Carolina” in all things but football. A true “Georgia Bulldog” fan, home games in Athens became his passion.
He provided us with many fond memories. His quick smile and compassion for others will live with us forever.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Rd., Aiken, SC. His funeral service will be Thursday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home, with The Rev, Dr. Rodney K. Powell officiating. Interment with Masonic Rites will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Robert Sanders, Jr., Chad Hilliard, Nick Hilliard, Andrew Taylor, Leif Kargaard and Russell Hale.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 950 West Farris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605.
