AIKEN, SC – MARION BAKER TARRANT, JR., 91, beloved husband of Edna Porter Todd Tarrant, died Monday, August 03, 2009 in Greenwood, SC.
A native of Greenwood, SC, Mr. Tarrant was a son of the late Marion Baker and Sara Brooks Tarrant, Sr.. He graduated from Greenwood High School before joining the United States Army. He was a decorated soldier. He served in World War II and retired as a Major after 26 years of service. He then went to work as a counselor for the United States Bureau of Prisons in Atlanta, GA. After his second retirement Marion and his first wife, Virginia moved to Aiken in 1982. She died November 14, 1991. He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his second wife Edna, include a step-daughter, Jane Todd Johnson of San Mateo, CA a niece, Catherine (M.W. Jr.) Luckey , Augusta, GA and nephews, Dr. Marion (Linda) Wier, Augusta, GA, Jack Wier, Jr., St. Petersburg, FL, Bobby (Patsy) Tarrant, Aiken, Michael (Corrine) Tarrant, Aiken, SC, several beloved grand nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM in Aiken Memorial Gardens, with The Rev. Keith Stewart officiating.
