AIKEN - Mr. Harry Garland Brady, 84, passed from this earth into life everlasting on Tuesday, February 7, 2017. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Evelyn Walsh Brady of the home; sons Terry Leonard Brady (Joanne) of Lexington, SC and David Garland Brady of Hilton Head Island, SC; grandsons James Patrick Brady and Jackson Robert Brady both of Lexington, SC; sister Betty Brady Moody of Jesup, GA; brother W. Ernest Brady of Aiken, SC and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Hubert L. Brady, Sr. and Mary Deas Brady; brothers Hubert L. Brady, Jr., N. Edward Brady, Jack R. M. Brady, and John Paul Brady; sisters Evelyn Brady Baker and Eloise Brady Smith. Harry was born on May 7, 1932 in Emanuel County Georgia the seventh of nine children. Shortly after his graduation in 1949 from Summertown High School (where he was voted most likely to succeed) he enlisted in the Army National Guard. His unit would later be elevated to active-duty due to the Korean Conflict. During his time in the service Harry was stationed at Fort Stewart, GA; Fort McCoy, WI; and Fort Gordon, GA. After being Honorably Discharged in 1952 he obtained a position at the Savannah River Plant near Aiken, SC. He retired from E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company in 1989 as a Chief Supervisor in the Digital Controls and Systems Department. He continued working at the re-named Savannah River Site with Westinghouse Savannah River Company for an additional five years. Harry was a founding member of the North Augusta Country Club where he served as a director and a term as president. Harry served as a Sunday school teacher and deacon while a member of Shaws Fork Baptist Church. At the time of his death, he was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church. Harry was also an active member of The Gideons International where he served on several committees and a term as secretary. It goes without saying that Harry loved his wife and his children, but anyone who knew him knows that it was his two grandsons that were his pride and joy. He loved spending time with them doing the things that they enjoyed whether it was fishing or watching them participate in their numerous sporting events. He instilled in them the same values that he instilled in his two sons; the importance of honesty, integrity, hard work, family, friends, and most importantly faith. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, February 10, 2017 at the Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Chris Masters officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Mike Ruvo, Dan Clayton, Tim Thomas, James Brady, Jackson Brady and Earl Parker. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Weisner, Joe Bickley, Ben New, Cliff Ashley and Mark Pitts. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Gideons International, Aiken County East Camp, PO Box 1926 Aiken, SC 29802.
