ORANGEBURG, SC - Mr. Rufus Hayes Rodgers, Jr., 84, died Friday, August 21, 2009 in Orangeburg, SC
A graveside funeral service will be held at 10 AM Monday in Aiken Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be family members.
Mr. Rodgers was born in Aiken, SC, a son of the late Rufus H. and Willie Plunkett Rodgers. He was a resident of Aiken before moving to Orangeburg 8 years ago. He was a textile worker for Graniteville Company, and a past Commander of the VFW. He held various other positions with the VFW, and helped with the Voice of Democracy as a member. He served in the US Navy during WWII.
Survivors include his wife, Gretchen B. Rodgers; daughters, Jeannette (William) Basnight, Aiken, Shirley (Gary) Legate, Aiken; Rose M. Tullis, Aiken, Beverly Thomas, Orangeburg; sons, Rex Dale Rodgers, Rutherford, NC, Edward Rufus Rodgers, Aiken, Roger Dale Croft, Atlanta, Arnold Croft, Santee, SC, Alton Croft, Orangeburg, SC; 19 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; sister, Alberta (Tracy) Bledsoe, Aiken.
